I scanned a few pages on Amazon.com's lookinside. I laughed at the paragraph that said (as close as I can capture it): "You would think that long foot-noted scholarly tomes written by pipe-smoking academics would be reliable. Such is not the case." That told me all I need to know, both about the writing and about the subject. Our generation does NOT know the truth about McCarthy. All we know is that he has horns and a tail.

Hmmm... I saw Stanton Evans on Glenn Beck. It was evident he was knowledgeable about the era, but I hear what you are saying. Some authors do have the tendency to repeat themselves incessantly. My daughter had wanted me to get the book then, but didn't order it till this morning. Paid $9.94 for it new though with an Amazon 3rd party vendor. The full $29.95 direct from Amazon was way too high. On that note I recommend others check Amazon's other vendors for all purchases there, but back to your comment, I'll just have to wait and see since I have the book coming. * * *
