Intel has billions of dollars sitting in the bank. Rather than wait for inflation to set in, or distribute them out in dividends (which is going to get taxed by the Obamanation), Intel is deciding to spend some of it.

My WAG is that the solar plant will pay for itself in 15 years. For Intel, that's a long-term investment that will pay off.

Not only that, but Intel also wants to score some political points. Counter some of the heat from antitrust regulation (another focus of the Obamanation), and take advantage of some federal stimulus grants in the process.

And "save the planet" in the process ...
