if there is going to be a global pandemic, I doubt that it is going to be the same strain that killed 50M people 90 years ago (estimated that 500M people caught it)

Natural selection would suggest that those who survived or didn't catch it are resistant to that strain and descendants would have that resistance too.

Problem now a days we have global travel, you can be half way around the world in less than a day.

We also have global communication to isolate areas/people faster than ever and begin the search for cures.

Of course while we're looking for a cure - a very large astroid could hit the earth and cause an extinction event. :-)

Always have cold beer on hand - just in case!
