John,

Re: "It must have been disappointing to you to see AMD stock rise today ..."

A couple of comments ... AMD does not stand a chance of making a profit
this quarter even if they come close to the 2M K6's produced:

1) AMD is spending tremendous amounts of money running silicon to try
and fix the .35um yield problem. Let me reiterate John, this is
not a mask problem, but is a parametric margin problem due to poor
process control.

2) AMD is spending tremendous amounts of money trying to bring up the
.25um process in a hurry. This has not yet really been factored into
the bottom line.

3) Tier 1 customers have been "scared off" due to delivery problems.
(No Digital, No HP, No Compaq ... Where are all the tier 1's, John)

My other comment is that I have found it very interesting that AMD relative
to Intel seems to be exhibiting a particularly ominous pattern. Have you
noticed that on down days that AMD loses more (on percentage basis) than
Intel, yet on up days, Intel gains more than AMD. This is a very bad
sign and means that AMD could see big drops again if there are any more
of Jerry's "surprises"!!

Make It So,
Yousef

p,
Re -- they said they needed 2M K6's to break even for the year.

From a news brief posted by Xy.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. warned it will fail to meet its original goal of producing two million of its K6 microprocessors in the fourth quarter and that it may not turn a profit for the period.

Re -- The reason for this is that, if anything, AMD confirmed that their 0.25 roadmap is on schedule,

What schedule. Notice all of AMD is running around like a headless chicken. If I were you p, I'd start my repenting immediately, and join the church of intel, where you don't have to humiliate yourself by fabricating excuses for a company whose only reason for existance is vengence.

Theres a slow... slow train coming....coming round the bend...

I remember Sanders saying in the Q2 conference call that he expected all production to be 0.25 micron by the end of calendar '97. So this can't be the schedule you are referring to. Which one do you mean?

We can only _hope_ that AMD will figure out how to make this stuff before socket 7 doesn't exist any more. And all hope so far has been in vain.

It's also not apparent that the Alpha slot 1 will exist when AMD needs it for K7. Do you have any opinion on whether Intel can and will squash it, given it's new relationship with DEC?

Long AMD and regretting it,
Jim
