The overall LD market is getting more and more competitive everyday.
MCI is feeling the heat and wants to do the deal as soon as possible
to avoid operation distractions.

To GTE, it should also know that the Street had already given
its thumbs DOWN on the $28B CASH offer. GTE's stock is
down to the 52-week low level. AT&T can offer a very attractive bid at
$60+ that shareholders CAN NOT refuse. Therefore, GTE needs to
construct a GTE/BT offer to support its stock price quickly.
Otherwise, Lee may say BYE BYE to his EMPIRE(and
HIS $36 million corp. jet) soon.

To all, an update: Several weeks back I complained on this thread about the difficulties I was having switching over to GTE long distance.

Well, guess what, people from GTE must actually read this thread because I got an email the very next day from the company wanting to know more about the problems I was having.

A week later they sent me a letter expaining what had happened, apologized, and got me set up the way I wanted.

Just wanted to finish the story.
