Haha! Actually, I can't stop reading history books... and the more I read them, the more I find myself ignorant of History. But then, I read history books on Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, etc. Right now, I'm reading Françoise Liffran's 725-page biography of Margherita Sarfatti, Mussolini's Jewish moll.(*) Next, I'll go back to English reading --with the story of Laetitia Toureaux and the Cagoule...(**) Next, I intend to read "Last Call, the Rise and Fall of Prohibition" by Daniel Okrent... And, of course, I already purchased Ted Morgan's last book on Dien Bien Phu, the French debacle in Vietnam... To get back to our Anglos vs Latinos story, let me also ask you a question: How come all the toponyms in California, Texas, Florida, New Mexico, etc are SPANISH toponyms? Los Angeles, San Diego, San Antonio, Orlando, San Fransisco, you name it... they all bear witness to the fact that, not long ago, all those cities/toponyms were under Spanish/Mexican sovereignty!! I keep following the news about the US-Mexican border... especially all these sories about drug-cartel violence, murders,... I remember, a coupla years ago, Mexican authorities blamed the US for flooding Mexico with guns and weapons. Mexico said that most if not all the cartels' weapons came from the US. Now, let me tell you my opinion on that: US intelligence is behind most of Mexico's drug-related violence --why? Well, you don't have to be a veteran Minuteman to answer: the more there's violence and drug-related crime along the US-Mexico border, the more the border will get militarized and the harder it'll be for wetbacks and illegals to cross it! Of course, there's a flip-side: the whole scheme might get out of control and turn drug cartels into... terrorist organizations. Think about it: a Mexican IRA... shipping bombs across the border instead of cocaine. Gus (*) seuil.com (**) lsu.edu
