Note cache into the P-II die !

Intel is hurriedly designing new versions of its MPUs for sub-$1,000 PCs, observers tell EBN's Mark Hachman. That market is currently dominated by Advanced Micro Devices and Cyrix. Intel's new strategy centers on modifying its Pentium II so that it can ship a 266-megahertz version for less than $200 by next summer. A retooled module will eliminate the Level 2 SRAM cache. A 300-meg Pentium II is expected to follow in the 4th quarter with the cache integrated directly on the die.
