Getting half would still be a huge achievement. There is an extra parameter on this: If you are on a permanent drug, you will not know how your life would have been without that drug. In other words, you have no idea, whether the $60,000 is well spent. However, if you spend $10,000 on a cure, you will definitely find out if it worked, or not.

I see lots of people that pay the $60,000 solution without knowing if it works, but would not pay $10,000 on a possible cure.
