Perhaps so Jacob, but how about what the government has already done? <government policy is random, capricious, and irrational. I can't make investing decisions, and company management shouldn't make decisions either, based on guesses about what the government will do. >

The dividend tax increase is a done deal. It is possible that some irrational counterproductive, random, capricious and normally self-dealing action will be taken by government, but a tax increase seems a fairly good bet, especially given the fact that it is done and somebody [such as a new Congress] would have to rapidly change it.

Yes, it would have been better to spend the lot at $32, $33 a share, but Qualcomm seems to be unable to buy big at the lows. If they had paid me the lump sum, I'd have been in. Now they'll decide it's a good idea to pay $42 a share again.

Most people are quite hopeless with large amounts of cash sloshing around. That's why it's an unusual situation and non-existent with governments which reflect the will of the people, Greeks being an extreme case. Neelie and politicians will be circling the stash of cash planning to get their hands on it. "For the greater good of course". All for one and one for all and all that good stuff. From each according to their abilities, to each according to their need. Spreading the wealth as incoming President Obama puts it and most people agree [for opm].
