Judge Alsop, in an agreement reached by all parties, ordered a freeze on the addition of any further Tandem T1 digital communication lines by MCI Corporation to customers until US Internet Corp.'s service is restored to a level of 18 Tandem T1 digital lines. MCI was also ordered to not tamper in any manner with the existing digital lines currently in service to US Internet Corp. A hearing regarding a pending Temporary Restraining Order was scheduled for 2:30 P.M., November 12, 1997. US Internet Corp., a Minneapolis, Minn.-based provider of national and international internet service, lost approximately 75 percent of it's newly installed Minneapolis digital lines on Thursday, October 30, 1997, when MCI abruptly shut the lines off. "This action completely caught us by surprise. We were led to believe MCI understood and had the capacity to meet our needs. We now find ourselves scrambling to provide our customers with service. This is following a long contract and technology transfer process during which we agreed to completely convert from US West Communications analog service to the digital service provided by MCI. The conversion required a substantial capital investment on our part. Now, five days after successfully completing the technology transfer, MCI cuts our service," commented Joe Caldwell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for US Internet Corporation. US Internet Corp., a privately-held corporation, is one of the nation's largest internet service providers with service in over 250 cities nationwide and over 110 cities internationally.
