I'm not a diabetes expert :-) But when I apply Operations Research theory on the health care sector in any country, it becomes obvious that many decisions that seem logical and sane, actually increase the overall costs of health care without providing extra value. Dilbert describes engineering business, but health care is not very different. I spoke to a guy today who told me how he handled his doctor, how the doctor tries to make him do various things, and how the guy lies to the doctor about what he did... the cause? The doctor tries to comply with international best practice, even though it does not make sense in this case.
