Z, there is nothing wrong with the concept of pension for public employees. Usually they sacrifice higher pay for increased job security and better retirement benefits.

However, like any system, public employee pensions can be abused. You have to fix it, just like any system.

Yet guess what happens when you try to fix or reform it? You get union people resisting change. They always spread the fear that the opposition wants to do away with pensions. Add a good dose of class warfare, throw in a race card or two, and voila! The status quo is preserved.
