I blame gerrymandering (by both political parties) over the past century to create polarized political districts where it is *easy* for one or the other party to get elected and *keep getting reelected* for the problem we have now of more then 90% of ALL INCUMBENTS routinely winning reelections.

That, and an assortment of other ballot access restrictions designed to keep all third parties marginalized and away from having lines on the ballot which both Dems and Reps have put into place over the years... things like BANNING fusion voting (which used to be commonplace in the nineteenth century but now is only legal in New York State --- not so coincidentally the only state to have a ballot line for the Conservative Party still), and demanding high priced 'registration fees' and similar crapola of new parties --- but giving Dems and Reps a free pass on that.

You wanna know WHY so many incumbents routinely win reelection? It's because the system has been gamed to produce that result, the laws have been twisted to create that environment....
