what is the big deal if the bank fails. Its not like people are losing their money

everybody is taxpayer safe

Yep.. I wonder how many European banks are going to fail now that they've applied their own "stress tests"...

Still think it's utter BS to not have them "haircut" sovereign debt held to maturity in the case of a default scenario.

After all, it was the fear of sovereign default amongst the PIIGs that started this latest panic.

It is in EU interest to keep the EUR alive and Benelux, France Austria and Germany will push it through.

You seem to overlook the fact that the US ALSO has an interest in the survival of the Euro and EU. We've fought too many wars involving European sibling rivalry and we don't want to be dragged into another one.

And we also are endeavoring to maintain the NATO relationship.
