"O can't find the will to do it for the civilians"
I'm sure he could, if Congress would cooperate. He could prolly ignore Faux saying "This is socialism", if Congress would just give him the money to try. In the meantime...
Government incentives give solar energy a boost
Back in March, Shelley Cohen and Mike Gala sent out a request to contractors to submit proposals on their project: to have solar panels installed on the roof of their colonial home in the District. Four companies responded, but one stood out: Astrum Solar.
“We were looking for the most comprehensive proposal and that’s what we found with Astrum,” said Cohen, a renewable energy project developer at Ameresco. “Astrum offered a full turnkey [approach]. They do the interconnection, the install and take care of the energy credits.”
Last week, Astrum Solar, which is based in Annapolis Junction, completed the installation of an 11.96 kilowatt system on the couple’s 1,100-square-foot house — the largest residential system in D.C. The company says the 52 photovoltaic panels should generate 13,754 kilowatt hours of electricity a year, meeting 75 to 85 percent of the home’s electricity needs.
The Cohen and Gala project is one of 500 installations Astrum has slated for completion this year, according to the company’s president, Vadim Polikov. “The solar market is incredibly vibrant and exciting,” he said. “The market, especially in the U.S., has probably tripled in size just about every year.” climateprogress.org == Obama announces $2 billion investment in solar PV manufacturing and “the first large-scale solar plant in the U.S. to actually store the energy it generates for later use – even at night.” "What’s more, over 70 percent of the components and products used in construction will be manufactured in the USA" July 4, 2010
In his weekly radio, the President announced he was putting $2 billion into two solar energy projects, including Concentrated solar thermal with storage (aka solar baseload). Message 26663894 == Obama: ‘Jobs of the future’ in Mich.
President Barack Obama trudged through a muddy construction site to break ground Thursday on a high-tech battery factory here, calling it proof that his emergency spending programs are lifting the nation out of deep recession.
“For years, you’ve been hearing about manufacturing jobs disappearing overseas,” said Obama, standing in front of trucks and mounds of dirt. “You are leading the way in showing how manufacturing jobs are coming right back here to the United States of America.”
In this distressed city, where unemployment lingers at more than 16 percent, Obama pledged more new jobs and said a stronger economy is within sight.
Michigan and the White House have pinned hopes of an economic revival here on the fledgling electric-car industry, hoping it can fill the void left by the vanishing auto manufacturing jobs that built Michigan’s middle class. On Thursday, Gov. Jennifer Granholm proclaimed Michigan the “North American battery capital,” which the president said bodes well for the state’s future. climateprogress.org == ARPA-E Funds $92 Million in Energy Research Leading to New Green Jobs
While the fossil fuel industry has been busy destroying jobs in the Gulf Coast (to say nothing of destroying jobs in Appalachia), the federal government has been providing more support for creating more new green jobs in clean energy. This week, a group of small businesses, big companies, research universities, national laboratories and non-profits received $92 million in energy conservation grants to develop new technologies for powering American into a cleaner, safer, and far less riskier future. cleantechnica.com = Washington, DC – President Obama announced today that the Federal Government will reduce greenhouse gas pollution from indirect sources, such as employee travel and commuting, by 13% by 2020. This commitment expands beyond the Administration’s greenhouse gas reduction target from direct sources set in January, 2010, such as Federal fleets and buildings, by 2020. Cumulatively, greenhouse gas pollution reductions from Federal government operations will total 101 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the emissions from 235 million barrels of oil.
The reductions in greenhouse gas emissions is called for in President Obama’s Executive Order 13514 on Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance, which requires the Federal government to lead by example towards a clean energy economy and reduce, measure and report direct and indirect greenhouse gas pollution. whitehouse.gov
I could go on, but that would give you one less thing to complain about. (Or one more to go with the 5 I just gave you, cuz there is bound to be something wrong with each of these, beyond "But I didn't know about these cuz they are too small to see without a microscope."
Atlas shrugged.
God laughed; he liked to see humans mistake leaders for gods. That storyline had entertained him on many a boring summer afternoon. |
