Yes, but this allows Cisco an opening to make further
in-roads into Ascend's customers. Cisco is coming out with
some powerful stuff, AS5300, 12000 router, and the voice-over-ip.

What we don't hear about as often is how is Cascade doing
against Stratacom. Anyone have any ideas? Before both were
taken over, Cascade seemed to have the lead, has that changed?

ROK wanted to compite with TI on the 56K front and idicated to their customers their technology was only 30 days behind that of USRX. It appears ASND and others took ROK's word for this. Six months is really how far they were behind. Much of ASND's recent mistakes were a relaince on ROK. Their only other choice was to license x2 and pay a competitor which was not something ASND wanted to swallow. CSCO had nothing to do with the prblems of ASND and CSCO is a very small nitch player in the RAS market. Glenn

Unfortunately, by the time the 56K game plan is figured out
xDSL will have taken off. I own Pairgain and there was an
article about US West not anticipating so much demand.

I think 56K is dead. Maybe Ascend should merge with Pairgain.

of 56k modem technology. Mory said in public that 56k was a non-event. Because
