I suppose you could conduct your very own test trials for cost/effectiveness between some bigger and some smaller boats in the Gulf if you wanted to.

But, as many scientists and interested potential vendors are looking over the data from the Coast Guard's trials I have no reason to suspect that much if any 'fudging' could have been possible.

Re: Besides that my statement was not just about larger ships, but "Larger and/or specifically designed ships" (and you can add "specifically designed boats" to the extent they might be relevant) vs. shrimpers and fishing boats.

(Apparently there just has not been a heck of a lot of money going into commercializing oil spill containment and mitigation over the years... still pretty much at the 'drag absorbent booms through the water from two boom arms' stage of sophistication....)
