Yeah, that's pretty dumb. But I once dropped an iPhone into the toilet. It didn't survive.

Left my iPhone last year on the trunk of my car overnight, and in the morning drove me and my dog about 1 km to a nice walking spot, which included one quite hilly patch, got out of the car, opened up the car door for my dog and was gobsmacked to notice the dew covered iPhone on the trunk. All fine. Without the rubberized cover it would have slipped off. Lucky for me no rain that night.

Last week I left my iPhone overnight on the deck. No rain! I wonder how many iPhone lives I have?
