they can't send the wives out to work this time around. unlike the 70's, most households are already dual-income. they had a very unusual dynamic in the 70's with the baby boom and the demand for women to work as public school teachers. this time, the schools will be downsizing because of the hangover from the excessive buildout during the real estate bubble.
