Well this thread seems to spend a lot of time worried about the recent activity. I would like to allay that fear and negativity. There certainly isn't much downside left here, in fact the prospects are titillating.

Nikon's problems with Cymer.
Forgive me if this is old news (rumor, actually).

We all have heard the stories (debunked by both Nikon and Cymer)about
how Cymer lasers were "hurting" Nikon DUV sytems. I recently heard
a rumor from a reliable source at one of the large US IC manufacturers. I was told that at one point Nikon had been trying
to run their Cymer lasers in a continuous mode (rather than pulsed) and that this was causing severe lifetime issues with the lasers. If true then this confirms that indeed Cymer lasers are not the issue, rather the way the stepper manufacturers are integrating the laser with the stepper is the issue.

Recent conversations with both Canon and ASML engineers confirm that
Cymer lasers are working perfectly in their steppers.

Has anyone else heard a similar rumor?

James Word.
