ElM doesn't seem to understand that China has colonized "his" stream because he failed to manage it well.

Africa is being colonized similarly. Brazil is also being colonized in the same way. Same for New Zealand.

When local yokel barbarians can't run their own show, more capable and civilized people from elsewhere take over.

Colonisation doesn't happen so much these days by megalomaniac genocidal brute force [as Japan tried in the lead up to and during their Greater East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere]. That's how chimps do it.

These days, it's cash on the barrel head for individuals and the politicians who are seduced by the profit motive and personal lifestyle enhancement. Many New Zealanders are selling their houses to the highest bidders [immigrant Chinese] and moving to cheaper places. That's what Maoris did 150 years ago [and subsequently]. Africa is enjoying great cash flow from China and ElM has been hired to roll out the fibre in Angola.

Some Africans are starting to be a bit wistful about the British Empire which brought not just cash, but human rights, enlightenment and other cultural accoutrements leading to civilisation. China is not so pedantic about human rights and never has been. But cash is a good enough start.

In the spectrum of humanity, few places have human rights very far up the list of importance and even where it is supposedly important, it's a pale imitation of the real thing.

ElM caused carnage in "his" stream and had to be fired because of insurrection. He's like an Indian Maharajah or Maori Chief who retained nominal power under British Empire rule, but reported to Whitehall.

It would be amusing to see him take back power as Local Chief [as Mugabe did in Zimbabwe].

There's a possibility that a similar conquest will happen in Afghanistan and no doubt many of the local would prefer Beijing rule with some autonomy than the current atavistic carnage. If the USA and Coalition of th Willing run for it, and Karzai invites China to help with stability, there would be serious consideration of the situation.
