I'm not sure how much enthusiasm I have for this debate. Arguing that the economy isn't as bad as some of the worst case scenarios is about as hopeful a play as defending Jeffrey Dahmer

I'm just trying to keep a toe on the optimistic side of the fence.

And all I was trying to say with that last paragraph is that unprecedented resources will likely be arrayed to hold the US economy together. It's in many peoples' interest that we keep spending. Whatever decline we face could take decades. Look at Europe. Spain is a shadow of the imperial power it once was, but life there is still pretty comfortable.
