"Capitalism Doesn't Require Democracy"

Yes, free markets do not require Democracy to thrive, and while China is moving toward a free market economy, it is not a free market now and it is far from becoming so. The health of it's economy will be enhanced by a continuing movement toward personal liberty and personal responsibility.

"For years, we?ve assumed that capitalism and democracy fit hand in glove."

Well, some have thought so, but that has not been the case. One of the world's most successful economies ever (in terms of GDP per capita), I believe, is (or was until recently) Singapore, a benevolent dictatorship.

FWIW, I hear the other day that China just surpassed Japan as the world's second largest economy. The ranking is now...

1) USA,
2) China,
3) Japan,
4) Germany.
