Americans already have a national ID card. It started with FDR and it's called the social security number. The original intent was that it was not to be used for identification purposes. I have a card that clearly states on it that it's not to be used for identification purposes (that'll give you an idea of how long I've had a number). Yet today, your social security number is pegged to everything. Why were they willing to give up more for nothing in return?
