Ben, RE: Spiders post. Thanks for the compliment. The post in which Karl discusses how to use SPY's long reflects my thinking on how I would use SPY's. I tend to think of them as long investment vehicles for indexing. For hedging I would advocate an active short strategy but definitely shorting SPY I prefer to any type of options trading. But keep in mind that my opinion on options is biased. IMO options are just a sure way of diminishing your risk adjusted preformance [many wise academicians and top investment professionals agree with my position on options. Extremely difficult to consistently make money with options. Transaction costs are a big factor to consider.
