oil eating microbes

Under the warm GOM seas with a virtually unlimited source of carbon based energy food (in the form of crude oil) those microbes would have doubled their numbers and their total volume every twenty to thirty minutes. In fact had the supply of oil continued and they would still be multiplying...

Someone with a flair for math can probably calculate the number of hours it would take then to completely fill the whole atlantic ocean if there was sufficient oil, water and oxygen! It would be a surprisingly short period of time!
