Cold wave kills six million fish in Bolivia

La Paz (IANS/EFE)- At least six million fish have died in three rivers of Bolivia due to the intense cold wave sweeping through the country in the past few weeks.

Authorities in the eastern Bolivian province of Santa Cruz declared an alert following the death of fish in the Grande, Pirai and Ichilo rivers that run through the tropical region.

This is an "environmental catastrophe" brought on by the lowest temperatures registered in Santa Cruz in nearly half a century, Gov. Ruben Costas told reporters.

He said that environmental experts have found that the rivers are highly polluted by dead fish, and he warned locals not to use those waters.

The cold wave that gripped the Southern Cone of South America last month caused a severe drop in temperatures in southern and eastern Bolivia, even falling below 0 degrees Celsius.

Bolivia's weather department has forecast that the southern and eastern parts of the country will continue to reel under the cold wave this week.

O needs to man up,Ken.Habitually pointing the finger of blame is childish. If O wants to be thought of as a strong leader he needs to reiterate the last clearly competent Dem President's statement 'the buck stops here'. Then O should add "if my Adm fails to find solutions for the nation's problems, the only one I'll blame is myself."

Wouldn't put it past him to do just that and then continue to say "it's all Bush's fault." He & his Adm often speak from both sides of their collective mouth.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. economy shed more jobs than expected in July while the unemployment rate held steady at 9.5%, a further sign the economic recovery may be losing momentum.

Nonfarm payrolls fell by 131,000 last month as the rise in private-sector employment was not enough to make up for the government jobs lost, the U.S. Labor Department said Friday. Only 71,000 private-sector jobs were added last month while 143,000 temporary workers on the 2010 census were let go.

Taking into account revisions to prior months this year, the U.S. economy added an average of less than 100,000 jobs a month in the first seven months, a level that's not strong enough to bring unemployment down. idiot odumba must go to hell
