I've been TRYING to keep this kind of perspective.

People forget the dread nuclear war instilled. As you point out, there were many other things we worried about a generation ago. Many things are better now - some are worse. It's the fear of might be around the corner that freezes us.

Are we on the edge of a precipice? Who knows. All you can do is make prudent decisions and keep on keeping on.

Maybe I'm being naive, but I think the amount of dread I see on these boards is disproportionate to the actual world. I also think the amount of Pollyanna'ism in other quarters reflects inaccurately where we are.

There is an information sickness washing over us and people are abdicating their common sense.

Yes, when you look at history it appears there really is nothing new under the sun.

I lived through those same times but I was still naive.

Yes life had its' problems even back then. My
premise and I believe AC's premise is that in
general people were friendlier and less selfish.
Grew up in Chicago and the doors didn't need to be
locked. Everyone in the neighborhood knew each
other ad you could knock on anyones door if help
was needed. As AC said maybe it was just being naive.
