The implication of a 'bridge to nowhere' is that nobody will drive across it. Or so few that it hardly justifies the expense.

The implication of a fiber optic network is that it will enhance our economy. If it isn't actually *used* then it is a fiber optic cable to nowhere. But it sounds like AC's cable will be used. How much? I don't know. A well placed fiber optic cable will make our roads last longer. I order stuff via fiber optics all the time and thus avoid driving on roads, generating carbon, wasting time. The UPS guy comes down my street every day regardless, so no worry there.

Not everything built by some gov't entity (or funded by) is a 'nowhere' project.
