I had heard about his legendary WFC call. I think Bruce is probably right on his financial call. The safest time to buy banks is after a bust since the next bust often does not occur until the generation who lived through all the pain retires and the next generation makes all the same mistakes again. That is super long term investing though..
As far as I can tell a major problem at the moment is the gov regulators who can"t decide about capital levels--about the most important aspect of banking--and in general are being very cautious at teh wrong time which keeps credit tight. Not to mention the new legislation and its unintended consequences.
