Austerity measures didn't shorten the Depression in the countries which tried it. It made it worse. "In fact, those who exercised New Deal-like policies likely screwed over those who engaged in austerity." How is that supposed to work? It doesn't even make sense. " Just repeat history, since those in power refuse to learn from it." It looks like many learned just fine. For example, we didn't make all of the same mistakes that Japan did.
