Yes it does. Austerity measures didn't shorten the Depression in the countries which tried it. It made it worse.

It looks like many learned just fine. For example, we didn't make all of the same mistakes that Japan did. Like the austerity measures when the fecal material first hit the rotary impeller. They have spent decades of stimulus, the economy improves, austerity measures, the economy tanks, rinse and repeat...
