I was a young adult when Reagan came along as a Presidential candidate .... and I'll tell you flat out ..... America was NOT doing fine up till then. Economically, it was the best it had been since WW II. Every president had reduced the deficit as a percent of GDP until Reagan came along. And then he proceeded to mess everything up with his tax cuts to the rich. I remember the misery index. I remember the rise of Communist parties around the world. Please. You people have something or someone whose always scaring the bejezus out of you. The Communism peaked somewhere between the 1930s and the 1950s. By the 1980s they were on the downhill slide except in the minds of American conservatives.
