I don't know whether your experiment would have the effect you think it would, but the odds are in your favor. On the other hand I can make the case based on personal experience that a visit to a primary's office will be cheaper if the patient gives some indication that he knows something about what's going on and participates in the decision to get additional testing...ie I have challenged the necessity for additional tests...There is no doubt in my mind that additional testing is primarily to generate cash and not for defensive purposes... If the MD or the group he is working with gets a new piece of equipment every MD in the joint tries to generate business for that tool...MRI's and CTScan's generate big bucks and can be operated for more than one shift. This is also true in the dentist's office where is clear an aim of the dental staff is to generate new business..
