Former Energy Advisor Victim of Apparent Drowning on North Haven
by WABI-TV5 News Desk · Aug 09th 2010 ·

A former energy advisor to President George W. Bush has apparently drowned on the island of North Haven.

Authorities say the body of 67-year old Matthew Simmons was found Sunday night.

We're told he lived on Salt Marsh Lane.

According to several websites, Simmons was the founder of an investment banking firm that caters to oil companies. He also wrote a book about Middle East oil reserves.

He also founded the Ocean Energy Institute, opening a Rockland office just a few weeks ago.

Two 911 calls were made to the Knox County Communications Center around 10 Sunday night, of a possible drowning.

A sheriff's deputy was sent over on the ferry.

We're told Simmons' body has been taken to the medical examiner's office in Augusta for an official cause of death.

RIP, Matt. I'll miss you.
OK... I'll say it... suicide.
