DOD and many other Agencies are very good at the duplication of work thing.

We do need a lot of redundancy for battlefield purposes and losses.

When we duplicate redundancy it gets stupid, wastefull and expensive, especially when we cross armed services to do it. Taking out JFCOM is appropriate.

We could really save big money by taking out USSOCOM. Do Green Berets really need a 4 star admiral and his bloated megastaff to tell them what to do? CENTCOM is the war fighting command of the moment. USSOCOM is a true duplication, a horrendously expensive albatross and a non-combatant Command to boot.

We should study every admin headquarters for duplication and every non-combatant command for what it adds to our war fighting capability.

Gates says he is looking at general slots too. That is overdue and I've written about that before. When the current base realignment is done there will be 27 general officers at Ft Bragg, NC. That is ridiculous. Most of those 27 are scheduled to be admin staff officers for other generals. Talk about duplication!!! That is the best example of the West Point "Protection Association" at work that I've ever seen. Which brings up another question. Do we really need West Point?

Show me a West Point trained general who has won a war for America in the past 50 years.

Not a one of our current senior generals and admirals has prevailed decisively on a battlefield. That is reason enough to fire them all. We should go down and find the lieutenant colonels and majors who have demonstrated they do know how to fight and promote them.
