Jeffrey Simpson might wish for the long-form census to return but what guarantee will he and others of his ilk give to the integrity of that data collected compulsorily. I for one will never mark my race or ethnic origin on a government form. I was very amused that the Francophiles in BC expected that the measurement of the percentage of French speakers would drop if there were voluntary census forms. Au contraire, surely more census forms would be completed by such affected minorities as it would be in their interests.
