Gottfried and Darrell,

Here's what it does say:

"International Data Corp. of Framingham, Mass., expects after-market drive shipments of 39 million in the U.S. this year. That's up from 25 million last year." Then, it goes on to say, "By 2001, almost as many after-market drives will be sold as drives with new PC's."

Sorry for butting in with this, but I just happen to have a huge pile of unread papers waiting on me here, and it feels so good to put at least one of them to use.

E

yes GM & E, that is what IDC said, so you are correct. one drive in the box and one drive peripheral (this could technically mean one zip or something like it in the box, and one peripheral unit) . but 130 to 150 million box sales by IDC is a conservative figure. dataquest has the box figure sales has high as 180 to 200 million (a near doubling from current sales) by 2001 (given proliferation of 1000 pcs), thus making peripheral drive units that much more prolific. so IOM is in an eviable position to take full advantage of their market leading position if they can do it. of course, if Nike is any indication of a market leading position in the mid 80s with their introduction of the "cool" tennis shoe, relative to stock volatility, we'll have a ride relative to peripheral storage units.

so, its tennis shoes in the 80s and peripheral drives in the 90s.
