I don't agree. A cathedral is consistent with American values. A mosque isn't. Muslims are attempting to take over this country. Catholics aren't.

As it happens there's a Catholic church not too far away thats been there for a very long time. It's where the Ground Zero cross was taken when it was removed from the Ground Zero site.

There's also a small pre-existing Greek Orthodox church that was destroyed when a building fell on it on 911. They're having some problems getting it rebuilt. Ironic considering the elite's pushing for the mosque.

Also the mosque will be in a very large building overlooking GZ and if artists depictions I've seen are correct, it will have a big crescent and star on its face. That sounds like a victory monument to me.

updated 7/24/2008 2:33:39 AM ET Share Print Font: + - NEW YORK — The World Trade Center site’s owner has offered $20 million to acquire the 1,200-square-foot lot of a church destroyed on Sept. 11, freeing one more piece of land needed to rebuild every inch of ground zero.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s board was to consider a complicated land deal with the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at a board meeting Thursday. The leaders of the 300-member congregation have been negotiating with the Port Authority for years over a price for the site where the church stood before the trade center’s south tower collapsed onto it on Sept. 11, 2001.

The church agreed to rebuild on a smaller lot a few blocks east.

"Ground Zero Cross" Petition
TO: Lower Manhattan Development Corporation
One Liberty Plaza, 20th Floor
New York, NY 10006

WE, the undersigned, hereby petition the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the agency overseeing the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site, to insure that the "Ground Zero Cross" should remain as part of any future memorial to the victims of the attack on the WTC on September 11th, 2001.

The "Ground Zero Cross" was the large steel cross found in the rubble of the World Trade Center by a construction worker, who came across it in the midst of the WTC wreckage just a few days after the attacks. It was standing straight, 20-feet high, surrounded by many smaller crosses. The cross at Ground Zero was not simply the cross beams remaining from an existing building. It was formed out of beams from Building One plunging, splitting and crashing into Building Six.

After it was discovered, construction workers, firefighters, police officers and family members began holding weekly Sunday services at the site. The names of fallen police officers and firefighters were also scribbled on the cross, along with the message "God Bless Our Fallen Brothers".

The press has reported that a group of atheists is threatening a lawsuit to prevent the cross from becoming part of any permanent memorial. Please, do not let them prevail. Please insure that the "Ground Zero Cross" should remain as part of any future memorial to the victims of the 9/11 attack. Thank you.

St. Peter's Church, which faces the World Trade Center site, was proposed as a temporary spot for relocation during construction of the new PATH station and office tower at the site.[20] The cross was eventually moved to St. Peter's on October 5, 2006 and as of the date of this writing sits on the Church Street side of the building, between Barclay and Vesey Streets. It bears a plaque which reads "The Cross at Ground Zero - Founded September 13, 2001; Blessed October 4, 2001; Temporarily Relocated October 15, 2006. Will return to WTC Museum, a sign of comfort for all."
