Record Droughts, Floods and Fires Strain Food Markets' Resilience

Flooding in Pakistan and a series of deadly mudslides in central China further fueled the food price angst. Canada is expected to see its wheat crop fall by 20 percent this year due to adverse weather. And now Australia's government is warning its farmers of a pending locust plague that could devastate that major exporter's wheat production.

U.N. officials are warning of the potential for a food crisis erupting in Pakistan. About 1 out of 10 Pakistanis has been hard hit by the flooding, and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that about 1.8 million acres of cropland is now underwater there.

The problem here is that most of the food is processed food. Eating the food in its natural form is the best. The chicken legs in those countries are the size of frog legs. The veggies are plucked fresh from the ground and are sold within 24 hours. They seldom use chemical fertilizers. They use natural one such as compost, chicken and cattle manure etc. When ou eat such foods, you do not joint pains, feel tired even after a good night's sleep etc.

I am not that thrilled to see that Obama has missed out the "food angle" during the health care debate. At the same time, like you, I am happy that Michelle is focussing on nutrition. start with children's nutrition and along with it adult nutrition will follow because "the mother will be eating the same food she would prepare for her child and her husband."
