I'm not a populist. A populist would support what's popular among the masses whether or not its a good idea, or even the right thing to do.

I wasn't a fan of special interests. There is a difference between defending corporations or rich people from over-regulation, over-taxation, and general abuse, and supporting their special interest against everyone else. Subsidizing them, giving them targeted tax breaks, etc. (Or regulating their industry in such a way as to help them, by hurting their competitors) is rarely in the general interest, so I oppose special interest favors for them, but I also oppose making them a target.
