Sometimes I go all depressive Total Doomer. Then I read the Methane Monster is gonna eat us all, and I cheer right up. When I first got to LA, there was a guy at work who was from TX. One day he told me he thought I was nice guy and so he suggested I shouldn't go to work the next day. I am figuring someone may be going psycho so the guy had my attention. I asked why. He said that he got a call in the AM before work that the rapture was happening the next day. I had no idea what a rapture was so I asked him to explain it. He did. I had always thought the guy was strange and of course, this confirmed it. Well as we all know, the rapture never happened but he did stay home from work that day. The day after the failed rapture he told me he had gotten a call in the evening from the same person explaining that the rapture had been cancelled. The cancellation was couched in religious terms that I didn't understand and could care less about, but the interesting thing was his terrible disappointment. He was crushed. Following that episode, I kept my distance from him most times but there was one time we talked again and so I asked him why he wanted to die....so badly. And he went off talking about angels and heaven......I realize now he was a precursor to the Muslim suicide terrorist and their vision of 32 virgins. Keep in mind we were in our early 20s and had our whole lives ahead of us. In any case, I kind of lump doomsayers and rapture and virgin worshipers in the same barrel. And btw.....berry twue story!
