From my experience, Sycamore, when poor financials are released after close on a Friday the stock scrubs 20% at some point on Monday. I did not say the stock would be down significantly for the week. The report was crap, and most expected it to be, but seeing it in black and white crystallizes it in the mind. Psychology drives the market more than anything and bottom lines like a quarterly report fuel the emotions.

There's no good reason to release 10Qs for a weekend simmer. This is poor judgement and usually has a more harmful affect. Consider it this way, how confident can aipn be when they release such info when they did?

If they know they're sitting on "tons" of oil, touchy-feely games are not required

Did I give you a break?

Greg

Sycamore, I do not know if you call 25% to 30% "big profits", for a bottom fisher looking for golden hooks it is just fine but nothing to crow about (I got in on the last big dip under 4). As for My thoughts on the market, you can find these on the ask Mohan threads where I have painted the same scenarion I suggested here. I painted the same scenario about a month earlier on the WFR thread for the semi and semi caps. There is nothin news with this opinion. I think that we are in a bear market that may end sometime by the middle of next year at around 6200 on the Dow, and in between there will be ample opportunities, IMHO to fet back into AIPN.

The world's markets are still on some very shaky grounds. While most are starting to focus on Asia; south of the border in Latin America the Brazilian market is taking a beating.

When you consider that this leg of the bull market, that began in 1982 is fueled by world growth and consumerism, our industries in selected sectors have been racking up stellar growth because of it. You are now in some risky waters because of the errosion of wealth that has occur this year and more precisely, this past month or so, in the rest of the worlds markets. This will have an effect here in the US markets. Just as alot of stocks rose wioth others they will fall in concert. Some more than others.

As this effect contiues then it is problematic for many fast, high growth companies and there earnings. Take SUNW, which posted disappointting earnings. The reason cited was Asian sales were bad and with the strengthening dollar. That dollar keeps getting stronger because of a flight to security and fear. One reason the US bond market is strong is the flight to that haven of security. Eventually this will take a toll on US securities on a braod basis, while a select few will still continue that demostrate earnings growth, irregardless.

You betcha I got some insurance in this market, OEX put's (prefer the 100 over the 500). Whether Monday is a bad day, well you should know early if Asia continues to slide and the European markets follow suit. Interesting employment report Friday. That's the lowest unemployment since '73. There is a scarier bear market than any of the crashes. It was one of drip and drip consecutive down days that finally ended in '74, but the lingering effect was well into the '80's. The precipitous drop in October was only 7% and total form the high of 15%. Hardly the '87 or '29 crashes which were +20% one day events and +30% total decline.

As to AIPN earnings report; you mean there were folks expecting earnings? Quess it goes to show you that they still have plenty of work ahead of them in the exploration phase and then other endeavours. It's another non-event, just like the announcement of people are a non-event, IMO. You still are and should be interested in two announcements, selling part of this lease and drilling the well. Those are the only release's that have any merit.
