I find this statement more than a little puzzling BC --

I will agree that all of these are services, the provision of which, certainly have very rapidly declining costs per unit to produce and such rapid decreases in cost per unit are not being passed along to consumers.

But to posit that if these services were all regulated, provided by one "vertically integrated supplier", they would be provided at lower cost to the consumer doesn't comport with reality.

I would argue the reverse -- the remaining regulation and vestiges of the old regulations -- continue to keep prices very high for services that should be able to be provided profitably at a fraction of the cost.

To wit -- the advent of more kinds of wireless services have driven down the cost of LD from the local telco. Subscriber line charges are grossly inflated from what they should be -- and this is because of regulation and the historical "natural monopoly" model.
