This provides a good historical perspective. But it still leaves me wondering why is this become an issue suddenly now with the looming elections. The Republicans had 18 months to do something about it in Congress. And they didn't. It again goes to show how the politics of "no" clouds the thought of getting something positive done. The Arizonans always had t his problem. McCain knew about it. But he toed a different line when he was a candidate for President. Now that the it is a narrow constituency, he is resorting to the "politics of convenience." You could have the last word if you want to. And we could let this issue rest at the thought that you and I agree that illegal immigration should be stopped but the approach needs to be different including the timing.
