<<"Gentile" in of itself is not derogatory>> ... my years in a jewish fraternity made me suspect as much and so yang gwei __ (zi, lao, po, mei) in of itself is not derogatory, unless one places additional adjectives in front and follow on with something rude, as in so and so is a moronic know-nothing yang gwei lao zi human slug. but then, should one preface with "moronic know-nothing" and end with "human slug", and place "hamoon" in the middle, one would also be rude, and so we must not do that. :0) otoh, folks who feel inner guilt may well believe yang gweilao is derogatory, as would a nazi being called a gentile.
