The market seems to look for an excuse to crash, and may do so whether or not Israel attacks. This credit bubble (or debt hole) will have to find a way to resolve, and it will be no fun no matter what.

About the possible global wave of terror.... We heard the same threats from Saddam Hussein, and not much happened. Bad guys know that they can mess with the West - and may even destroy it - but only if the West allows them to do so. In case of real hostilities they'll crawl away and hide. May well happen that Hizbollah won't play much of a role even locally, in the ME, in case of a major conflict.

With nukes, I think, nonproliferation may work - but ONLY if potential offenders KNOW that the repercussions would be certain - and decisive. Under such circumstances there may NEVER be a situation when actual use of force would be necessary. But if everything is ad hoc, and "enforcers" keep hesitating forever, and keep going to the UN every time for moral and legal support -- then, there will always be attempts to test the rules, and there will be wars.
