<<Because being American is a state of mind, not of blood or DNA. It's a belief in the values, as represented in the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence.>>

... you mean that piece of paper no politician read? stop the comedy.

<<A person of Chinese ethnicity can be just as American as one who comes from Europe, Africa, or any other geographical location>>

... that is again funny, shameless too, and and my stomach is hurting from laughter.

right now the wait time for folks choosing to be non-american is 11 months in london and 12 months in hong kong. at some stage, my guess, the spanish-speaking americans would redefine america, and do so with greater ease than tibetan compatriots who veered of the han branch, to be reunited.

<<So.. can I be Chinese? Or would I forever remain a "Gweilo".>>

... no, you cannot. but, ah, given hospitality of the people, some choose to be so honored en.wikipedia.org

<<Eventually everyone will be American, if only as a "state of mind" regarding individual freedom and accountable government>>

... please stop with the individual freedom and accountable government stuffing, for it makes all else you say suspect. for individual freedom, hong kong is supreme, and for accountable government, african governments are the most satisfying (because accountable means accountable, as in to be tallied and reckoned, thoroughly).

<<It's a trend you cannot reverse without serious bloodshed.>>

... that would be the correct conclusion.

<< And even then such a reversal, IMO, would only be temporary.>>

... i suppose you can put it that way, because all processes are temporary.

tell me, hamoon, do you really believe ... <<American ... a "state of mind" regarding individual freedom and accountable government>>

do you really believe that is what america stand for this day and at anytime since ... pick a date ... 2000 ?

should you answer "yes"
i worry about you for your sake.

and if we go back to usa founding, i figure it was a nation borne of genocidal mayham and state-sponsored terrorism, and given its behaviour over time, basically perfected too many ways of killing a lot of women and children by machines.
