Sipping Saints by: (starts with an S., but can't remember author at the moment.)
The same "church" that produced Jim & Tammy is the same "church" that has produced Paul & Jan. Show Biz Christianity. "We've got a really big show tonight." Blessings for sale. Let's send you a handkerchief for a donation of a "suggested $25.00" and for some of you, you can give a lot more.
One thing you can say super-positively about Bill Gothard, he asks you if this is tithe or offering you are sending in and he will actually send the money back if it is tithe. He 'sez the tithe belongs to your local church (but that is another subject).
"The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them." Hosea 14:9b

Jane, I hold nothing against anyone who has truly repented..so I don't really refer to Jim and Tammy that way since they have repeated and Jim even wrote a book "I was wrong".
I guess if God has forgoten it then my memory has too.
but, NO...the church I was in, in Houston and Now beleive that God wants you prosperous..but He has to have your heart before He can prosper you. In fact, I think the pastor I had in Houston from 1979 to 1993 probably has the most balanced message on prosperity in the entire world. I think Jesus visited him personally and gave him the message to devine the paradox on prosperity.

"seek se first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you"....seems pretty simple to me..you have to seek the Kingdom.
that's the key and balance that with contentment and letting God purify your heart. Only God can purify your heart. you cannot.

>>And what
kind of a fool can take the preaching of madmen over the Word
of God? I think only those who don't really know it, or? What? I am without a clue as
to what humans do because they
simply blow my mind too often trying to comprehend their thoughts and actions. And it
probably goes both ways, I'm sure.<<

Jane,

I agree with both observations. 1) Knowing God's word is protection from the likes of Jim Jones et al -- and 2) human behavior is the most unpredictable thing we see.

I try not to judge and I try not to "figure people out," just take actions and communications at face value. Only God knows the heart completely. This is good from a number of standpoints -- first, I have Someone who has seen all there is to see of me, worst to best, and still decides to love me unconditionally -- second, it is good sometimes that we do not completely know what is on the heart of a brother or sister -- there is an added oppty for love, faith and trust to be practiced.
