Unfortunately, I can't handle normal corporation financials so definitely can't add anything of value on same for MLPs ... really need a finance type to address how hedges are handled. That notwithstanding, for regular companies, I do believe that hedges, while affecting reported numbers, are non cash events which really are shareholder neutral.

My best forte is observation and in that vein I can say that while it appears pipes do GENERALLY have negative UBTI that need not be the case ... take MMP, 2009 purchasers had UBTI covering the full range from -35.65 to +110 with the determining factor appearing to be when the MLP decided to pass through certain items and therefore purchase date was the driver.

My personal gatherer processor experience:

MWE Purchased 2-24-09 @ 14.72 2009 K-1 UBTI -48.67 per 100 units
