I never bother powering off the monitor. It goes into sleep/standby mode within a few seconds of me putting the PC to sleep or shutting it down.

Any chance that you've got a cable/shielding problem. The HDMI cable that I use is the relatively short one that Samsung provided with the monitor. It has some built in device (looks like a fat bulge near where it connects to the monitor) that does some sort of electomagnetic shielding.

I'd have to find the manual to find out precisely what it does.
